Quick Fire Questions

Coffee or tea?

Classic Coke

Early bird or night owl?

These days I’m definitely an Early bird!

Favorite Aircraft?

I have always loved aircraft ever since elementary school. Growing up I always admired WW2 aircraft, especially the Spit fire, P51, F4U Corsair. Spitfire in my opinion is one of the most beautiful aircraft created. But the P51 had the best performance and range.

Do you have a passion or hobby outside of work?

Wood-working is a passion of mine whenever I have free time.  I recently helped a friend build a head board and working on a new desk for my home office. – ACL tears have unfortunately ended my racquetball career.

What is you favorite Norxe product, and why?

The P60 8K is such a capable device. Offering our customers incredible brightness in a rugged compact chassis. I like this product because of its longevity and the ability to keep a visual system future proof because it offers near eye limiting resolution.

1. What is your favorite installation that you were a part of?

LCAC Hover craft for NAWCTSD. Mid 90s-2015 3 projector set. Upgrades throughout that time. FL35s. Up on a collimated motion platform.

Unique hovercraft. Landing Signal officer training 270-degree 6 projector trainer.
Only one of it’s kind at the time.

Favorite Norxe job was a 15 channel projector set up for the US special forces.

2. Which Norxe product or technology are you most proud of working on, and why?

P60 8k overall brightness and resolution. NXL technology.

3. What’s a misconception people have about projection technology?

That someone can take an off the shelf product and slap it into an installation.

There are several factors involved in creating a seamless display. Warp and blend, design eye-point, brightness washout and environmental factors all need to be considered, just to name a few. Dynamic resolution is sometimes overlooked in specs. That’s why we work with great integrators who have decades of experience to create a seamless solution, so the customer is satisfied.

4. What’s a small detail you obsess over that makes a big difference for customers?

Understanding that a good installation has many different facets. And only when the whole system is integrated correctly can the end user truly have an outstanding trainer. A few missed items such as latency and picture movement could make or break a solid simulator that provides positive training. Negative training provides cues that may not exist in the real world or training that is not in line with training to accomplish the task in the real world.

5.What is your best advice for a customer before they select a product?

Look at the complete system, from image generators, to connectivity, to screens and of course projectors and lenses. From a projector perspective, look at total cost of the lifetime of the solution and projector. Framerate and refresh rate over the lifetime of the project should also be considered. Review all the requirements. Ensure that the equipment used is easily upgradeable to ensure the solution is future proof.

6. Which Norxe project or installation has been most memorable to you?

The StarCenter in Davie Florida was our first major US installation. And the first big trial of our P1 projector. Years later we upgraded their Maritime bridge trainer from Norxe’s P1s to the laser P2 projector which had a larger color gamut. The P1s were then used to upgrade an older projector system. The P1s originally installed in StarCenter are still training maritime officers to this day. They have currently been in service for 8 years + which is a testament to the longevity of the solid state Norxe projectors and the dedication and quality maintenance of the StarCenter technicians.

7. What do you think sets Norxe apart from the rest of the industry?

As reliable as Norxe projectors and lenses are, whenever there may be an issue, Norxe is there to support and work with the integrators to resolve the problem as fast as possible.

8. What part of your job do you enjoy the most?

Seeing the successful installation of a complete visual system. Taking a projector from initial proposal to complete installation. That meets the customers’ needs. Providing the best value and solution for the customer. It’s not always the most elaborate or expensive solution. Going beyond meeting expectation and exceeding them.

9. What’s a detail in your work that makes a big difference for customers?

Not losing focus over the training requirements for the end user.  I find it crucial to keep the goal of the end customer in mind throughout the planning and implementation process.  I don’t want to offer solutions or products that the customer does not need.

10. How would you describe the Norxe team in three words?

Exceeding customers’ needs.

11. What’s the best thing a colleague has taught you?

When I worked as a contractor for the U.S. Navy, I had a program manager tell me that  “bad news does not get better with time unlike wine.”  Best to tackle an issue early on or deal with even worse consequences later.

12. What’s one thing you’ve learned here that stuck with you?

Keeping the perspective of the customer in mind even though I’ve been working as a supplier. Not selling the customer something they don’t need and bringing value to the solution.
